About Us

The Ark Playday Centre was established by Norma Stokes in 1987, and has grown and changed over the years. In 2007, the non-profit Treehouse Housing Association took over ownership and operations, and Norma returned to The Ark as a staff member. The Ark is currently guided by a volunteer Board of Directors whose mission is to provide services to children and their families while building community “from the roots up”.

The Ark provides Multi Age, Preschool, and After School childcare to families in Telkwa and the surrounding areas. Our philosophies centre around the idea that children of all ages learn through exploration and play, and that being immersed in nature helps children to connect to themselves and their communities. At The Ark, children can pursue their interests, develop skills at their own pace, and are able to learn to make decisions and solve problems.

The Ark’s programs are designed with the whole child in mind. Our programs are developed to increase cognitive, physical, communication and social skills; learning is fostered in a pressure-free environment. Through participation in outdoor education, dramatic play, arts, music, science, field trips, and literature, children learn independence, increase positive self-images, and develop a range of skills.

We are licensed by the Ministry of Children and Family Development and are inspected by Northern Health on a regular basis.

We support families receiving Child Care Subsidy. Please contact us for more information.

Our hours of operation are from 7:45 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
